Questions and answers
Can a glass door still be used while waiting?
That decision depends on its actual condition and should not be made from a general website answer. Do not operate a door with unstable glass or fittings. Tell TBC and the property manager how access is affected, and discuss the opening's immediate condition separately from the later replacement. Availability and any interim work need confirmation.
Do you need the glass markings or old drawings?
Existing labels, visible markings and project drawings can help identify what is installed. Photograph them only when safely accessible, without removing glass or covers. They are supporting information rather than a substitute for assessment. Explain any known changes since the original installation so the replacement is not specified from an outdated drawing alone.
What happens if the frame is also damaged?
The frame condition needs to be included in the scope before the new panel is fitted. Replacing glass within an unsuitable support may leave the original problem unresolved. Identify visible distortion, loose fittings or damage around the opening in your enquiry. Ask for the proposal to distinguish glazing work from any door, frame or surrounding finish repairs.
Can you replace glass without replacing the storefront?
It may be possible when the supporting frame and surrounding assembly remain suitable. The assessment needs to distinguish a damaged panel from damage to its supports, door or adjacent glazing. Send a wide view as well as a safe close-up. The replacement specification and final dimensions should be confirmed before any glass is ordered.
What should I do around cracked or broken glass?
Keep people clear of the affected area and avoid touching, measuring or operating unstable glass. Notify the person responsible for the premises and call to discuss the situation. Explain whether the panel is in a moving door or a fixed storefront. Safe photographs can help, but getting a picture is never more important than avoiding the hazard.
How should a delivery entrance be prepared for work?
Tell the property contact which entrance is affected and identify delivery periods, vehicle movements and stored materials around it. Discuss access arrangements before the appointment and keep the immediate work area available as agreed. Any alternative route needs to be suitable for the building's use. Do not assume the service door can stay operational throughout a replacement.
What should a hollow metal replacement quote include?
Ask for the leaf, frame treatment, hardware preparation, finish and installation responsibilities to be described. Any retained components, removal work and adjacent repairs should also be clear. Where existing specifications or labels apply, provide them before ordering. Comparing those details helps distinguish a complete replacement proposal from a price for the door leaf alone.
What should be checked after the repair?
Normal swing, clearances, closing and latching should be reviewed alongside the agreed work. Ask for any remaining frame, threshold or finish issue to be identified rather than assumed resolved. Record the entrance identifier and components changed. That information makes future maintenance enquiries more useful and helps the building contact understand what was actually completed.
Should I keep the old hardware information?
Existing invoices, model details and photographs can help explain what was previously installed or repaired. Keep them with the entrance's maintenance record and note when symptoms returned. They are useful context, but the present condition still needs assessment. Avoid assuming that repeating the same replacement will solve a problem if the underlying alignment or supporting material has changed.
Can I use the Mississauga project photos as a reference?
Yes. The published glass-replacement example shows a real Mississauga opening. It is not identified as a Port Credit project, and the dimensions or hardware should not be assumed to match your storefront.
