↗Questions and answers
Why does my commercial door scrape the frame?
Scraping describes the symptom, not the failed component. The position of the leaf can change when hinges or pivots wear, fixings move or the surrounding frame distorts. Tell us where contact occurs and whether it happens throughout the swing. Inspecting those relationships helps determine whether adjustment, hardware replacement or a wider repair is appropriate.
When should I consider replacing a commercial door?
Replacement deserves consideration when damage affects the door's structure, repeated repairs have not addressed the underlying problem or the opening no longer suits its intended use. The decision should include the frame and hardware rather than the leaf alone. Explain why replacement is being considered and ask which retained components will be checked before ordering.
Can you replace glass without replacing the storefront?
It may be possible when the supporting frame and surrounding assembly remain suitable. The assessment needs to distinguish a damaged panel from damage to its supports, door or adjacent glazing. Send a wide view as well as a safe close-up. The replacement specification and final dimensions should be confirmed before any glass is ordered.
Can a hollow metal door be repaired?
A repair may be appropriate when the leaf and frame remain sound and the problem comes from alignment or compatible hardware. Corrosion, impact damage and weakened attachment points can change that decision. Share photographs of the full opening and any visible labels. The assessment should establish which parts can be retained before a replacement is selected.
Why does my aluminum storefront door stop short of closing?
The closer may be only one part of the explanation. Resistance at pivots, hinges, seals, the threshold or the frame can prevent the leaf from reaching its closed position. Describe where it stops and whether the latch engages without assistance. Assessment of the whole entrance helps distinguish an adjustment from hardware or assembly replacement.
What is included in a new storefront discussion?
Start with the intended arrangement of doors and fixed glazing, then consider frames, hardware, thresholds and surrounding finishes. Explain who will use the entrance and what needs to change from the existing layout. TBC can discuss the commercial opening as a coordinated scope, with measurements and project requirements confirmed before ordering or fabrication.
Why does my frameless glass door rub or catch?
Changes in the relationship between the glass, pivots, hinges and surrounding opening can affect its movement. Describe the contact point and any visible change in the gaps. Do not force the panel or adjust unfamiliar fittings. An assessment should establish whether the issue involves alignment, hardware condition or damage requiring a different approach.
Does a powered operator fix a door that is difficult to move?
A door should be assessed mechanically before an operator is treated as the solution. Binding hinges, misalignment or unsuitable hardware can affect both manual and powered movement. Describe how the entrance behaves when operated normally and identify the existing equipment. The proposed scope should address the opening and controls together rather than adding power to an unresolved fault.
Why does a multi-point lock feel difficult to operate?
Resistance may involve the locking mechanism, the receiving points or the position of the door within the frame. Describe whether the difficulty occurs during normal closing or when turning the key. Do not force the handle or lock. Assessment should consider alignment and engagement across the opening before assuming that the central lock case needs replacement.
